Intermediate Breakdown

Our Tropic Plus Intermediate is the perfect choice for the angler looking to cover the upper / middle water column in deeper channels, heavy currents or the surf.

We built this line to feature a 27 ft. extended body that excels in both short and long range casts. The 7 ft. front taper will turn over a variety of fly sizes without compromising subtle presentations. The 7 ft. back taper paired with the extended body transfers more energy into your cast resulting in superior shootability.

This line features a monofilament core and our signature tropic plus coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The thinner overall diameter excels at casting through windy conditions. This line is finished in a smoke color for ultimate stealth on the flats or sandy bottoms.

Whether you are targeting Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Snook or Redfish on the Flats, fishing turbid water or casting from the beach our Tropic Intermediate has you covered.

FAQ

Our Tropic Plus Intermediate is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Tropic PVC coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.

The taper design for our Intermediate line was built to excel in both short and long range casting. The extended body and short rear taper allows for more energy to be transferred into your cast for quickly shooting your line. The average front taper turns over a variety of flies without compromising subtle presentations. This line has a sink rate of 1.5-2 IPS and is built in true line size so your rod never feels overlined when casting maximum distance.

This line is finished in a smoke color for ultimate stealth on the flats or sandy bottoms.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Cortland Fly Line

Always a reliable product. It performs as designed and makes casting easy delivering the fly to where you think a fish ought to be with precision. Anglers like myself are fortunate to have a company that makes so many products for fishermen. Tough but so well engineered that it takes the effort out of casting leaving the angler to concentrate on the delivery of the fly to that exact spot. Fish on!

I ❤ Tropic Smoke.

I bought extras as backups. I've been using this line since 2014 and it's pretty much the line I'd hoped someone would make and Cortland did. I have it on my rods for 8, 10 and 12. I really wish you'd also make it in 6. Yes, a lot of us use 6 weight in salt water and have trouble finding the right lines for it. My only other complaint is that this line is easy to shoot 90 feet with 2 back casts and I wish you'd make it the full 100 feet.

This is a great intermediate line. Turns over big flies with ease and loads my fast action rod well.

Fun line for snook fishing on the beach.

This line was on sale on the website. I needed an 8wt line for beach fishing. This line is great, and exceeded my expectations. It was easy to throw and it allows you to keep your line a bit below the waves. If you're looking to do some beach fishing in south Florida this summer, maybe try an intermediate line to increase your chances of hooking up!
