Casting Character Stable and Controlled
For more than 40 years, the 444 SL, or Specialized Line, has remained a versatile choice for freshwater anglers who need greater casting distance without sacrificing line control. Its highly visible mint green color and smooth, reduced friction finish make the line easy to track and manage across larger rivers and longer presentations.

The 41 foot head features an extended body that forms stable loops and keeps more line under control at distance. This design supports accurate casting, long mends, extended drifts, and efficient line pickups when fishing dry flies, nymph rigs, wet flies, and other freshwater presentations.

I think the 444 SL is one of the best casting fly lines ever made

I think the 444 SL is one of the best casting fly lines ever made. I can cast fifty feet with almost no effort - the line goes on its own! A great fly line that I'm grateful to find Cortland still selling.

Great casting line

One of the nicest fly lines for casting in all conditions that I have ever used and a good price. No need to spend more on a new line.

Not happy

These lines are not 444sl. They are not casting as well as you peach lines they are inferior to your better lines by a wide margin.

444 sl same as old 444 sl. YEA!

After trying a couple other brands along with my old 444 SL, several things become apparent.
Durability and longevity, Cortland makes a durable long lasting line. I have spent $100 plus on some other lines and I've continually been disappointed with the softness of the plastic coating and how quick they crack and separate. I am loving coming back to the 444SL

444 SL WF5F

Excellent fly line for old school two-piece and current generation graphite rods at an honest price. Great taper for both progressive-moderate and fast action rods. Courtland fly lines are an American icon. And no, I'm not sponsored by them. Just a person who was blessed to have started this sport after College in the early 80's ( "the golden age of flyfishing" ) and am now retired. You cannot go wrong with the 444 (peach) and 444 SL (bright green) fly lines. Highly recommend.

Classics never die.

Used this on 10’10” 6wt Euro rods to make them versatile for steel Head fishing. They cast beautifully.

Best line for the money!

Great line! It was recommended by a friend who is well known in the industry. I concur with his opinion that it’s a great line, especially for the price!

Go-To Fly Line

I have used Cortland Classic 444 SL for 2 decades. When I try some other brand, I come back to this one. It loads easy and shoots off the rod like it is rocket propelled. It works with either the tiniest dry fly and a number 6 bass popper in dead calm or a Montana wind storm. Clean it every two or three days with the Cortland line cleaner and you will not be disappointed.

Quality fly line that holds up well

Great casting and floating. I've owned Cortland fly lines for over 50 years. They consistently outlast competitors fly lines.
