Streamer Intermediate Tip Fly Line for Precision Depth Control

December 15th, 2025

Anglers who thrive on hunting aggressive fish beneath the surface know that subtle control over sink rate can mean the difference between getting ignored and getting crushed. Cortland’s Streamer Intermediate Tip Fly Line is purpose-built for those moments—where streamers must ride just beneath the surface and stay in the strike zone longer. Designed with a clear, 15-foot intermediate tip followed by a floating body, this line offers unmatched control over how deep your fly swims while still allowing clean pickups and mends.

This line was developed for those who love reading the structure of the river—those who strip past submerged boulders, swing through tailouts, and feed baitfish patterns along weed lines. The Streamer Intermediate Tip is a go-to choice when conditions demand subtle presentation without sacrificing contact or hook-setting power. Whether you're stripping through glacial lakes in the Northwest or probing the edges of fast riffles in the Smokies, this line excels when fish are feeding mid-column and a floating line just won’t cut it.

A Balanced Blend of Stealth and Functionality

What sets the Streamer Intermediate Tip apart is its hybrid head design. The 15-foot clear tip sinks at a slow, controlled pace (approximately 1.5 to 2 inches per second), allowing you to fish just below the surface film without plummeting to the bottom. This is particularly effective when targeting trout, smallmouth bass, or other species that prefer chasing bait at eye level or slightly above.

The floating rear section gives anglers enhanced line control, making it easier to mend, reposition, and lift line off the water when needed. This hybrid design gives you the best of both worlds: you get the sink where you need it—out at the fly—and the control where it matters—in your hands. It’s an ideal setup for anglers fishing unweighted or lightly weighted streamers in rivers, creeks, or shallow lakes, where depth and tracking consistency are critical.

Built on a braided nylon multifilament core, this line remains supple in a wide range of freshwater conditions. Its slick outer coating ensures effortless casting and long days of stripping without worrying about coiling, memory, or friction drag.

Built to Fish Hard in Varied Conditions

Durability is key when it comes to streamer lines, and Cortland’s Streamer Intermediate Tip holds up under pressure. Whether you're roll casting from a tight bank, bombing long casts from a drift boat, or making short, reactive presentations, this line is built to keep up with your rhythm. The welded front and rear loops allow for fast rigging and quick leader changes, a welcome feature when fish are keyed in on a specific depth or fly profile.

Visually, the clear tip offers natural camouflage that blends with surrounding water and reduces flash—a huge advantage when fishing clear rivers or lakes. It allows you to approach wary fish with confidence, especially in bright or shallow conditions.

From Montana freestone rivers to Appalachian mountain streams, the Streamer Intermediate Tip gives you the ability to adjust depth without swapping spools or sacrificing line feel. If you're an angler who likes fine-tuning your presentation and thrives on seeing your fly move just right through the water column, this is the line that delivers the nuance and control your game deserves.
